Thrifty Thursday: taking my own challenge

Have you taken self-love challenge #2 yet? I decided I better practice what I preach and do it with all of you.

This little dress is a number I picked up thrifting last year for $5. I altered it, but ended up never wearing it out once I did. I don't know why. I think I just felt scared about just HOW vintage-y it was. The lace collar was what made me buy it, but it's also what scared me about wearing it.

So, after issuing this challenge to all of you, I figured I better get real and wear it out. I paired it with my thrifted jean jacket and my Blowfish boots to modernize it a bit.

See? I survived. I even wore this out and about to run all my errands. Yeah baby! Self-love challenge accepted.

Have you done the challenge yet? How did it go? Link me up if you blogged about it!

$5 Thrifty Thursday: Acid wash love

Here's a Thrifty Thursday find I haven't taken off since finding it last week. Judge alllll you want, but I'm in LOVE with this acid wash jacket. I've been loving the resurgence of the denim jacket--it's probably my 90s childhood calling my name. I knew I wasn't going to buy an expensive new one because there are plenty, and I mean PLENTY, of perfectly glorious denim jackets to be found at the thrift store.

This particular beauty was $2. It was half off day at Savers, and I kind of went crazy. I have no shame. Also, here's a pro tip for you. If you sign up for the Super Savers club, you can shop half off sales a day early. Yeah baby!

Paired with this delicious 90s floral print dress from ModCloth, I felt like I was going to head to my BFF's house for a night of 90210 and the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. Would it be ok if I wish that really happened? I do.

PS--since when was there rain in January? So weird. Also, my shoes were completely filled with water after that jump. WORTH IT!

Elsewhere on the thrifting block, Leah from Superstition Vintage found these three $5 finds:

$5 Thrifty Thursday: Love Story and the Wolves

The streak of extraordinary thrifted homegoods continues. This week might leave you thinking--does Amy have any iota of taste? To which I say, good question. Here's why:

1

Ok, but wait--before you pass all of your judgments, let's first talk about this statue. The best part about this is my good friend Jenny handed this to me as a joke. As in, look at this creepy statue and laugh at the ridiculous quote on the bottom. But where it really got silly was when I squealed in delight when I realized just what exactly it was. Here--take a closer look:

Look familiar? Not yet? Maybe this will help:

Yes!! It's a Love Story music box! And I'll give you one guess as to the song it plays. I am borderline obsessed with this movie. Ryan O' Neal, Ali MacGraw, prep school fashion in the 70s, mushy love--it's perfection. I've loved it ever since I was little, so to find this was just glorious. And of course, it has the ever-famous quote wrapped around the bottom, only solidifying its place as the greatest thrift find ever. I don't care if the statue Ryan looks like a blonde Ronald McDonald--I'm in love.

Of course, with this Love Story statue came two very amazing wolf salt and pepper shakers. I thought I'd throw them in since they are this week's favorite thrift finds. I'm pretty sure I've started a pretty decent S&P shaker collection at this point. The statue was $2 and the shakers were $1 for the set. $3 total for pure thrifted glory.

Elsewhere on the thrifty block, Kate from Dessau, Ni Ho found this gorgeous hand-drawn print. It's drawn on a 1900s San Francisco newspaper! She also found this antique canteen for $1. Love it.
