So here's the deal--I'm not all that into recipe posts. But that's only because I hate cooking. I love eating, but I hate grocery shopping, cooking, dishes, and leftoevers, so that leaves me with an unnatural hatred toward all things kitchen-related.
BUT--and this is a big but...
This is a family favorite I had to share. And before you write this off as just another recipe post, let it be known that this is THE best cinnamon roll recipe EVER. All caps necessary. So, if you're a sweet roll fiend like me, I promise you that these will be the best thing that ever happened to you.
Ladies, I give you The Fastest Cinnamon Rolls in the West. (Or sweet rolls. There is no difference in my mind.)
Because this is a recipe we got from a neighbor, it's kind of a mish mash of wild directions. I'm pretty sure this lady had it memorized, and my mom just transcribed it, so here it is. Oh, and it makes A LOT of sweet rolls, so you can easily half this. Don't be scared of the big quantities.
THE DOUGH PART
1. Prep the yeast:
- 3 ½ C warm water
- 1 c oil
- ¾ c sugar
- 5 T yeast
Mix in mixer and let rest for 15 min. until bubbly.
2. Mix it all together:
- 10 ½ c flour
- 1 T salt
- 3 beaten eggs
Add to mixture and mix until smooth: (about 3 to 5 minutes)
THE DELICIOUS PART
1. Divide dough in to 2 parts.
2. Roll out and spread a cube of melted butter over dough. (You don't have to use a whole cube--I did a half cube for each batch of dough. I never said these were good for you. Just channel your inner Paula Deen here.)
3. Take a bunch of cinnamon and brown sugar and sprinkle it over the buttered dough goodness. There is no rhyme or reason here--use as much or as little as you want. I used a lot.
4. Now roll up the dough lengthwise (meaning start from the long side and roll up to the other long side so you get as many rolls as you can).
5. Take a piece of thread, wrap it around the dough, and slice it into a delicious little cinnamon roll-sized circle.
6. Place on greased cooked sheet and let rise for about 1 hour.
**BUT WAIT! Here's the magic part. These actually don't HAVE to raise, hence the name. We've put these straight into the oven several times, but we've found that letting them raise for a tiny bit does make them a tiny bit better. But if you're in a hurry, you can just throw them right in!**
7. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 minutes.
THE FROSTING
- 1 bag powdered sugar (2 lb.)
- 1 cube melted butter
- ½ t maple flavoring
- ¼ t salt
- Add enough water to make a smooth paste.
Mix that all together until you're happy with it. The secret to these is in the maple flavoring--I promise. I added a TON more maple flavoring than it called for because it's my favorite. You definitely don't have to use it if you're not into maple, but you're crazy. Just sayin.
Make sure you frost those babies right out of the oven as this frosting will kind of harden if left alone for awhile.
Now you just let the revolution begin and enjoy the best homemade cinnamon rolls of your life. Mmk?
Let me know if you make these!! I'd love to hear how they turned out for you.

I LOVE cinnamon rolls but I have a fear of the commitment to making them. I'm all about fast and easy so this may be a match made in heaven!

If you say those are the best cinnamon rolls I guess I need to try it asap! They do look delicious
You have changed my life! I live in an old, cold house. One incapable of rising dough. Thus my life has been cinnamon roll-less. Well no more! I am so making these this weekend. Awesomeness.
These look delicious and I am absolutely not the domestic type (i.e. - I can cook enough to sustain myself but I don't bake EVER)...but if you say these are easy, they look so tasty that I might just have to give it a try.
Ooooh, thanks for sharing this-- YUMM. Those look so good!! I've been making pumpkin pies like a fiend lately because my babies like to have that and only that for breakfast. How can I possibly deny them such an adorable indulgence??
i just went back to this post and died a little inside. these are haunting me.
