$5 Thrifty Thursday: Gingham goodness abounds

I feel like I'm starting to wish every day was $5 Thrifty Thursday. Can I just make every day a thrifty day of thrifty goodness? I'd really like to. Really really.

This week I went thrifting with my always fabulous friend Jenny, and we stumbled upon this awesome 80s mom jumper full of gingham goodness. I don't know why I didn't take a before photo--it's a shame really. This thing was down to my toes and screamed 1st grade teacher with permed hair. But for $5, I knew I could make it work. Or at least I had to. The gingham and pleats were too fantastic not to.

With a snip, tuck, and trim here and there, I think it turned out quite alright. I paired it with a little blouse for a nice back-to-school feel. Ever since graduating from college (4 years ago. WHAT?! how did that happen?) I've felt sad every year come September. I always wish I could go back to school and buy a pencil box. Instead I guess I'll just wear this school-esque outfit and live vicariously through all of my student counterparts.

Lastly, a quick hallelujah for red tights. I love them. So so much.

Elsewhere on the thrifting block we've got two AMAZING finds from Chloe of Lazy Explorers. I don't know if I can handle how amazing this $2 dress is--TWO DOLLARS. Just look how pretty it is. Dying up in here.

She also found this brand new camera for $3, still in the box, WITH film.

This was all at an estate sale and boy oh boy, is Chloe lucky.

$5 Thrifty Thursday: the one with the floral curtains

Thrifting was slow this week. Don't you hate those weeks? Also, what does it say about me that I can say "this week?" Yes--I go thrifting EVERY week. And most of the time 3-4 times a week. What is wrong with me? The other day I watched Obsessed, and the hoarder at the antique store sounded eerily like me. BUT I NEED IT! IT'S VINTAGE! Am I headed down that road? We shall see.

In the meantime, while I'm headed down the path to potential hoarder status, I did manage to find these gorgeous floral curtains. I've been on the lookout for curtains for the room for a great long while, but I kept finding just one solitary curtain. (Really? Who donates just one?) Finally I spotted these beauts with a $5 price tag for TWO! TWO curtains! A set!

With this perfect set I was finally able to compliment this stellar orange chair. Mitchell had it from college. It might be why I married him. Just kidding. But seriously?

The florals! The orange!

So happy I didn't have to resort to $40 curtains from Urban Outfitters.

Elsewhere in the thrifting world we had more stellar finds, like these perfect cutoffs Carly found for $4.99. I love everything about these. (See her blog post about them here!)

And Amy found these glorious oxfords for--yes, it IS true--$3! $3 shoes are the best kind of shoes.

Lastly, Adrienne found ALL of these books at a church rummage sale where she paid $2 for all of the books she could fit in a shopping bag. These are the sales thrifting dreams are made of. $2 for 32 books!

$5 Thrifty Thursday: Oregon Coast Edition

Welcome to another edition of $5 or less thrifty goodness. Don't you think for a second that I wouldn't go thrifting just because I was on vacation. In fact, the fact that I was on a vacation was all the more reason to make a trip to the thrifts. There's nothing like a completely undiscovered thrift store, right? Right.

This week's find was purely practical and ended up being one of the best purchases in recent thrifting history. Once we got to Oregon I realized I hadn't packed any good shoes for tidepooling. One cannot wear toms in the shallow waters of tidepools, so I set out determind to find some galoshes at the Lincoln City Goodwill.

It was kind of a long shot, but with the thrifting gods in my favor, I landed these perfectly perfect BRAND NEW galoshes. They were $4.99 and never used. What luck!

I wore these floral gems the ENTIRE trip, from the rocky beaches...

While these aren't vintage, they were an amazing practical find that I'm sure to get plenty of use out of. Just another reason to make thrifting a hobby.

Other great finds this week include this sweet vintage Pente game found by Secia of Petite Insanities. It's exactly like the one she and her mother used to play when she was little. The photo also includes her other thrifty finds--that newspaper is fantastic!

Kate from Iris Inspired found this adoooorable skirt for $3 along with those cute yellow shoes for $2. That's a $5 outfit right there, and I say YES!

Last but not least, we've got this find from Meg of Meg Mix that is blowing my mind. A $4.99 paint-by-number last supper! Preeeetty awesome. Be sure to check out her other thrifty finds here. They're all fantastic!

Thanks to everyone for participating in my $5 Thrifty Thursday posts. The participation makes me so happy, so keep it coming! If you found something thrifty for $5 or less, send some photos my way at amymorby(at)gmail(dot)com.

What did you find thrifting recently?
