I was talking with my co-worker the other day about the need to champion Salt Lake City--make it known how awesome it really is. Especially in the summer! So much free stuff to do.

This weekend, Mitchell and I took an early morning stroll around downtown SLC to get brunch. Our little walk turned out to be a big walk around the entire city where I snapped a bunch of photos in an effort to say, hey...SLC is pretty darn neat.

I used to work in the Kearns building. Very, very vintagey inside. The elevators were terrifying.

And Mitchell works in the Walker Center--that building on the left with the big tower up top.

Mitchell is also lucky enough to walk to work every day. One of the reasons we bought a condo in downtown SLC. We love our house. Muchly.

A peek at the MASSIVE City Creek development coming pretty soon. It's basically going to be a gigantic city center full of luxury condos and all kinds of shops and restaurants. We are all very, VERY excited about this development. Especially us since we're 3 or so blocks away from it.

We're all waiting anxiously to hear the lineup for this year's Twilight Concert Series. No, it has nothing to do with the literary abomination ruining our posterity's brains. It's a free concert series that runs all summer at one of the parks here. Some pretty stellar bands came out last year, including Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and the New Pornographers...and Beirut...and tons more. And yes...absolutely free. Best part of living in Salt Lake if you ask me!

Of course, the best part about Salt Lake is Slowtrain, our local record store. We luff them.

I promise. Utah isn't all Mormons and lameness. Right fellow SLC-ites?

and it's probably a good thing they did. because some things are better with two morbys.

going on cruises is definitely better with two snazzily dresed morbys sneakin' mirror pics on the boat. so mypsace right now.

turtle snatching is only allowed if two morbys are there.

and going to oregon definitely wouldn't be the same with only one morby.

same with seattle....

and zion too, if you want to get really crazy.

And let it be known that drums can be played without two morbys. But they cannot be played well unless both are present.

I sincerely believe dining at settebello without two morbys is blasphemous. (as clearly seen in these faces.)

And concerts in the park? Don't settle for anything less than two morbys who know how to live the thug life in SLC.

And of course, no westy is complete without two morbys. Especially the Mitch & Amy variety.

Yes. I do believe two morbys are far better than one. Those two crazy kids.

ps...it's also been a very good two years for mitch's hair. everyone do me a favor and tell him you love it so much more long than q-tip mushroom toadstool as pictured above. he's on a 1.5 year growth streak. tell him to celebrate two years of our love by saying NO to possibly impending haircuts and YES to the mane.

Anyway, she's amazing. She also runs this thirft shop for the Assistance League. It's called Thrift on 33rd, and it's a great little shop. She shares my penchant for all things vintage, and the other day, she picked up this AMAZING, jaw-droppingly fabulous feathered hat for me. I mean, seriously! Pea green feathers? Was there anything more perfect for me ever made? I think not.

Thank you, Aunt Lisa. I absolutely adore it. And you know what? I'm going to bring fancy hats and gloves back in style. You just wait and see.

the vintage eye candy here is completely out of control. i was drooling over everything--the dresses, the hair, the lipstick, the furniture, the colors. and don draper? woah. they just don't make 'em like they used to.

i mean c'mon. where have i been? it's like the 1950s dreamworld i've always wanted kinda sorta almost exists.

looks like someone has a new addiction.

the funny thing is--i love all of these interiors and would probably sell my soul/body/first born that really isn't ever happening to have rooms like these:

I'm not ashamed in the least to say that my happiness is completely defined by this gadget. This beautiful, sexified gadget.

We were basically made for each other.

my mermaid green jacket FINALLY came in the mail.

we partied down with the fam.

and ate some killer veggie burgers. (god made veggie burgers with me in mind. just sayin.)

even though it's been perpetually rainy, it finally is summer.

and this stinker is happy about it.

if you're unfortunate enough to not know about these sweet creatures, let me enlighten you/change your life:

that's a camper, kids. with a pop top.

they also cruise in the sands of america if you so desire...and i DO!

they have a fridge, a sink, a stove, and 100% unadulterated awesomeness. the sweetness of these is palpable should you have the great pleasure of meeting one.

anyway, we don't have one yet, but we've made the decision to buy one the second we find the right one. (finding a solid vanagon circa 1985 can be tricky.) but let it be known that we are actively, ACTIVELY pursuing our marital dream of living a life of westy adventures and writing the best blog ever about it.in fact, we even test drove one the other day. it may not have been the gem, but sho nuff it only solidified that happiness in the morby home can only be achieved when based upon life in a vanagon. (you should also know i've never laughed so hard in my life as i did when we were driving that thing around the ghettos of SLC. omg. so fun.)

forget about kids.

forget about a house.

we're buying a vanagon and cruising america.

stay tuned because this aint no casual dream. this thing's gonna happen. and i'll let you know when it does.

and that's a guarantee. kinda like men's warehouse.

mitchell, i can't thank you enough. this is hands down the best birthday present a girl could ask for.

just think of all the adventures we'll have together.

we already took two rolls of film today, so hopefully i'll have a couple of cool shots to show you soon.

in fact, this blog just might turn into diana chronicles. but i don't think you'll be sad about that. she's amazing.

also, thank you, father mike, for nigh unto 20 rolls of 120 film that expired in 1996. i can't wait to see how they turn out.

thank you everyone for such a brilliant birthday. i'm the happiest 23 year old in the world today.
