I'm a voracious thrifter, music aficionado, heathen, and owner of a 1984 Westfalia Vanagon. I'm a writer and a designer, but mostly just a secret cat lady. Vanagon Champion is about all of these things with a little bit of thrifty goodness and old-fashioned magic for good measure. Learn more about me here.

Royal, you so cray cray
I woke up to this champ snuggling next to me this morning.
But as soon as he knew I was awake, he turned from snuggle cat into meat cat attack cat.
He gets like that in the morning. I do, too.
Any big plans this weekend? I'm currently holed away in the sewing room coming up with certain somethings for another exciting certain something.
Hope your weekend is going splendidly!
fall is for sweaters.
When the air gets brisk, Royal knows it's time to get classy. Sweater classy.
did she really put her cat in a sweater?
Yes. An orange n' brown houndstooth sweater. suck on that. he looks like a 1960s swinger. A distinguished one at that.
is she really putting her cat in a sweater and taking glamor shots of it?
you guys. who wouldn't?
human hulk cat on hind legs.
Best $5 I ever spent. And to all you friends and family, be prepared for the greatest Morby family Christmas card of all time.

they say the third time's a charm
We might be crazy. In fact, I'm fairly certain that many of you might read this and say, "wait....they really got another pet?"
Yes. We did. And we really might be crazy. But we walked into Petsmart yesterday and couldn't resist this little guy:
But before you roll your eyes about our third attempt at a pet, let me tell you a little more about Royal.
Yes, he is certainly named afer Royal Tennenbaum. He's a 4-month-old kitten that's already litter box trained, has already eaten an entire bowl of food, and peed and pooped. Meaning, ladies and gentleman, he's a HEALTHY CAT! Woah, what a concept. The second we brought him home yesterday and he ate for the first time, I about died with joy. We waited three weeks for that sight with Penny and never got it, so to see him so happy and healthy is making our lives pretty much.
Pretty sure he might be the most playful cat in America, too. So far he doesn't really nap. And he was up most of the night with his feather toy. He runs around the house dive bombing his toys and hiding in the curtains and loves life. I don't know if he missed the memo about being a real cat or what, but right now he's too busy playing to be a stinky lazy cat. And we love him for it.
He looks kinda mean in all the photos because a.) I can't catch him sitting still long enough for a good picture and b.) I don't know. He just looks mean. So here's a video of him playing with his favorite toy being adorable. He really is the sweetest cat with the prettiest blue eyes I ever did see.

He's also the friendliest cat in America. He's all about cuddling and nuzzling and gets a little upset when you leave him alone. Upset meaning lots of sad meows. He's quite vocal. We have a fancy little bed for him, but his favorite spot is the yarn basket by the window. I say let him have it.
Since Royal was raised in a loving foster home, his health is guaranteed, and we have two of the cutest, sweetest little ladies to call at any time with questions. SO much better than the last kitty hospice experience. And hey, I'm a hardcore sewer/crocheter now, so getting a cat was pretty much inevitable, right? They really just go hand in hand.
Welcome, little Royal. We hope he likes it here. We sure do love him already.
