$5 Thrifty Thursday: Fringe and Diane Von Furstenberg

A little thrifting dream recently came true for me. And when I say little, I really mean a lifelong thrifting goal of mine. NBD.

Here's the deal--call me crazy, but I've always wanted a fringe leather coat. I'm talking a full-fledged 80s fringe coat. I've searched the coat racks at thrift stores tirelessly but to no avail. But recently with a little luck from my BFFs Jenny and Laura, this little dream became an 80s almost-Christmas miracle. Ladies, I give you the cropped fringe leather jacket in all its glory:

Judge me as you see fit, but I LOVE this thing. It was a little steep--$20--but Laura told me I was being a weenie considering it was a real leather coat AND something I've always wanted and had never managed to find.

The good news is that the same trip brought me a little vintage Diane Von Furstenberg blouse--another thrifting first for me. I've never found a designer piece in the thrift store racks, so needless to say, it was all very exciting. Mitchell calls it my lady cop shirt. I'm ok with it. Especially since it cost me $2.

Thrifty Thursday: What to do with vintage scarves

I have always been a sucker for a vintage scarf. But here's where the confession comes in--I never use them. I buy them and just never do anything with them. They're always so pretty sitting there on the rack at the thrift store, but nobody wears them anymore, so styling can be a problem.

Well, thanks to my cute sister-in-law's mom--thanks, Anne! Hope you're reading this!--we are all now enlightened as to several "Wonderful Ways to Wear Scarves."

When Anne showed this to me I just about fell over dead. First of all, the title is fantastic, and secondly, the illustrations! So full of 70s/80s goodness! The instructions are all very simple, so I decided to try a few and show you here.

All of these pretty silk scarves also came from Abi's cute mom, so a HUGE thank you to her for being a reader and knowing how much I would love them.

These are just a couple of styles of the 50 or so in here. Some of my other favorites that I think you should try:

Ba ha. Maybe not that last one, but how awesome that someone thought an old lady buying this at JC Penney would rock a scarf as a bikini.

So, this week's thrifty challenge--tackle the scarf section! And tell me how it goes of course. What's your favorite use for a vintage scarf?

$5 Thrifty Thursday: The gifted sherbet dress of dreams

This week's thrifty find comes from one of my dearest and sweetest blog friends: Christina from Cookie Louise Pleaze. This girl is practically my long lost style twin, and she recently stumbled upon probably THE most incredible estate sale find ever. Think bags and bags of free vintage clothing. But I'm not going to tell you details because I think you should visit her blog and read the story in her words. It really is incredible.

Anyway, Christina was so SO sweet to send me this piece from her insane treasure trove to style up, and I honestly couldn't be more grateful. It's goooooorgeoooous and fits like a glove. Better than a glove. It's just perfect.

I can't get enough of the orange and avocado colors--it's like some sort of 70s sherbet dreamworld, and who doesn't love 70s sherbet? Paired with my favorite Blowfish Brandi boots, this outfit was easy breezy with  all sorts of that vintage flair that I love so much. Thank you a bajillion times over, Christina! I couldn't be happier with it.

Elsewhere on the thrifting block, Alyssa from Au Courant found these gorgeous, gorgeous Salvatore Ferragamo olive flats for a measly $5. These might be the greatest thrifted flats ever, no? Click here to see her post on these babies.
