crap.

omg. don’t get me wrong. i’m so outlandishly thrilled to start my job. seriously. gimme that steady paycheck.

but secretly, i’m going to be sad about letting go of my daily routine of sloth. i.e.,

• -going to the gym at 8:30 am instead of 5:30 am.
• -staying up late and watching family guy because i don’t have to go to the gym at 5:30 am.
• -not wearing makeup
• -watching daytime tv. (studio 5, ellen, oprah–all going on the dvr asap.)
• -mid-day cat naps.
• -reading every day at 2pm since there’s nothing on tv but soaps.
• -actually making dinners. real dinners. dinners not involving mac n’ cheese or going to subway.
• -crafting, crafting, crafting at all hours of the day. every day. making things like this:

it’s a chalkboard plate. you write the menu on it. or sassy messages about doing the dishes. whatever you want. and now that i have the chalkboard paint, i want to paint everything into a chalkboard. including my walls. or something like this:

anyway, i look to thursday with a bit of bittersweet excitement. yes, the last 4 months have been awful, but they’ve also had their perks. hopefully i can still make craft time happen. (thursday nights, emily?) and hopefully i can keep up my insatiable reading appetite. and yikes–hopefully i can still make TTMG fridays happen.

whatever happens, at least i have a job with a paycheck. and after 4 months without one, i’m bound and determined to never take that for granted ever again. whether that means i have to give up craft time or not. werd.

all i needed was a little encouragement and a lot of help from my dear friend, emily.

on monday, we threw caution to the wind and made curtains. curtains!

emily even taught me how to make fabric buttons. i want to make a billion of these beauts.

so what if I have a crazy obsession with paisley?

once we did the curtains, i realized that sewing is not as scary as i initially thought; thus, em-dawg and i had yet another crafternoon. this time, we conquered pillows. with piping, no less!

lemons. lemons are for lovers and diet coke. the piping was an adventure. i’ll have to learn a little more before i attempt that again.

and of course, after 2 days of a sewing high, i wasn’t ready to be done yet. so today, i sallied forth on my own to try and make a simple pillow.

we just won’t talk about the amount of unpicking and broken needles we had here. it turned out alright for my first solo project.

it’s a wild living room, but it’s fun. too bad i’m dumb and didn’t include the curtains in this picture. oh well. i think i’ve tortured you enough.

on another, slightly less relevant note, i must share my new prized possession–a brilliant bday gift from my mitchell:

also, i do believe these new sandals deserve a look. they look exceptionally fashion forward with my st. patty’s day socks, don’t you think?

have a lovely st. patrick’s day. i hope you didn’t forget to color your dinner green like i did. our tamale pie will not be green as planned since i’m an idiot and engrossed myself too heavily in ellen while making the dinner. at least we’ve got festive plates and napkins, right?

of course we were.

and we found these–these glorious little tv trays. yes, tv trays. with a caddy. try and tell me you’ve seen anything as glorious as these beauts. also, $5 for a set of four. beat that.

are you loving this caddy? you better. it’s amazing.

we’ve wanted some for a long time, but we’ve never been able to find any. until now, suckas!

why yes, we DO eat in front of the tv every night, and yes,  we DO love it. are they tacky? extremely. do they fit right into the morby home? like a glove.

then, as if they couldn’t get any more kitsch, we worked a little mod podge magic. i had a lot of old under the radars, eurotuners, and better homes and gardens to get rid of. the opportunity just presented itself so brilliantly.

speaking of brilliant–mitch is a closet mod podger. i believe his craftiness came out in full bloom with this project. i also believe the pony tail unleashed some sort of man-crafter mojo. kinda like magic mojo. only better!

i went with a nice, tasteful music theme:

it’s like eating with my bff’s every night. jenny, hot chip, and radiohead–right there with me, experiencing my veggie burger delight on a tuesday evening.

mitch went with a very manly chic eurotuner theme:

on another note, i also found these absolutely spectacular boots at savers.

$4, suckas! $4! and yes, they do look stunning with sweat pants. don’t hassle me. and don’t act like you don’t like it. they’re real leather and made in brazil. i’d like to think they’re circa 1975. basically they’re just the coolest boots ever. and they go exceptionally well with the tv trays if i do say so myself.

huzzah for thrift stores. ’twas a fulfilling monday.

tonight, though, i sallied forth and made these brilliant little flower creations:

i believe i shall make them into hair clips to put on headbands. or just my hair. or mitch’s hair. it’s long enough.

also, they’re cuter when not featured in a crappy iphone photo. sorry.

i also purchased my first hot glue gun tonight, so laura, it’s time to let weekly craft nights begin. i mean it. come home from your stupid cruise and call me. eff.

I sewed one onto a hair clip. Now it can be by itself, on a headband, on a jacket, whatev. good times.
