turns out the krishna temple is amazing. i’d never seen it before, but it’s like a mini taj mahal in the middle of podunk nasty spanish fork.

the llamas did not like christopher.

they didn’t really like andrew either. turns out llamas are really picky. they continuously refused andrew’s perfectly good albeit a little dirty apple he found on the ground. who knew llamas were apple snobs?

anyway, on the way over to see my pop on his big day, i decided to listen to the music that he loves. before i knew it i was sobbing to crosby, stills, & nash’s “helplessly hoping.” we’re talking full on sobs. initially alarming, yes, but once i dug into the feelings a little deeper, i realized i was just feeling indebted to my dad for raising me right.

i am literally the luckiest 23-year-old music junkie because i was raised by a father that loved music. that played a 12-string guitar. that sounded out “bridge over troubled water” on the piano and let me listen to The Who as loud as i wanted.

that later supported me as an eleven-year-old wannabe violinist. that took me to lessons every thursday at 4 and came to every single recital i ever had beaming with pride. and later supported me when i wanted to take guitar lessons, too. that’s a lot of lessons and a lot of money. and he did it.

he did it because he loves music. and i was lucky enough to have a dad that loved me enough to instill that love in his crazy, free-spirited daughter.

so dad, i know you don’t really read this, but if you just so happen to read it by some silly happenstance, i love you. and i can’t thank you enough for allowing me to be the person i am today because of all of the incredible music you gave to me at such a young age. i bet you’ll never really know how much it means to me, but it does.

it meant so much to me that today i sobbed when “helplessly hoping” came on. i mean, who does that? apparently i do.

maybe someday we can listen to those albums again and break out the 12-string. i’m sorry i took it for granted when i was young. i guess i had no idea how lucky i was to have such a sweet dad.

i know now, though.

Back to weekends, though. I love them. Especially this one.

With a baseball game and dippin dots.

They’re the ice cream of the future, you know. (these are actually from a bees game we went to last Monday for work. So not even remotely close to the weekend. but…i felt that it was important to share that we had these. mostly because i was completely disillusioned. these are not as good as i once thought when i was little and my mom was too cheap to buy them for me at lagoon. turns out mom was right. not worth it.)

and these strange mushrooms that i 100% legitimately thought were a turtle when i walked out of my apartment last night. completely insignificant/irrelevant to this post, but…you guys…i really thought it was a turtle, aight? it was crazy.

i got some new shades.

and we paid a visit to the westy up in provo. (we won’t get her until next thursday due to some unfortunate title issues. who knew it took so long to mail a title? apparently i do. and it’s a long time.)

provo is so picturesque. i’m totally kidding right now. but to be perfectly honest, provo has SOME cool parts to it. but only like…two.

and the pinnacle of the weekend…catching up with my best of best friends in the universe–Andrew Wiggins. (and of course, reuniting with the fantastic Christopher Hermelin after four very long years.) a-wigg played a show. we came. we watched. we savored the musical morsels.

also, have you heard of cupcake shakes? i hadn’t either, but they EXIST! and they’re exactly as good as they sound if not more amazing. the idea is simple: a cupcake blended into a shake. i’ll tell you right now it’s better than anything you’ve ever tried.

and after our red velvet creation, we were believers, too.

pair that red velvet cupcake shake with sweet potato fries and you’ve got love. straight up, unadulterated love.

and in case you didn’t know, and you probably don’t, we’re all part of a world-famous, life-changing band that’s going to revolutionize America. and probably your FACE.

how do i know this? because a-wigg is on the accordion. a legit accordion.

there are plenty of treats in store via this band, kids, so….get ready. trust me.

andrew and chris, i know you probably don’t read this blog, but you guys are gems. absolute gems. thanks for a spectacular evening.

and now? now i sit and eat my earthy banana bread made of egg whites and applesauce with a diet coke and make plans for afternoon napping.

yes, i do believe everlasting weekends are a good idea. in fact, i think i’ll write barry obams about it right this minute.

-diapers are exponentially less gross when they look like jeans:

-summer is overrated. pretty sure i blistered my hands on my steering wheel today.

-cookies and cream candy bars are extremely underrated.

-ceiling fans exponentially increase life quality.

-having road rage while listening to “all you need is love” is ironic. didn’t stop me from honking my horn.

-summer mostly just means a lot of fat boobies on the loose in tank tops.

-grocery shopping is easily the stuff of misery.

-the national is my new favorite band of the moment. conversation 16. look it up.

-<3

’nuff said.

-i’m over damask. way over.

-scrambled egg sandwiches make up 85% of my diet. and i oddly don’t feel bad about it.

-the new iPhone probably gives meaning to my life. again–i oddly don’t feel bad about this. also oddly enough, i’ll be getting one. mitch just doesn’t know it yet. yikes!

-vanagons are pricey. but never you fear–we WILL have one! mark my words!

-saving money blows. spending money is awesome. especially on belle and sebastian tickets in LA. holla.

-i notice a lot of things.

my third and most outlandishly comfortable pair.

my life is complete.

like going on trips to zion with the two coolest men in america.

like your spouse wearing a killer bandana in the woods and looking so much like Devendra Banhart that you can’t even stand it.

like being outlandishly excited to take in a roll of diana film from zion and show it to all of you. (it’ll be processed on Thursday!)

like listening to animal collective and feeling infinite. every single time you listen. no matter how many times you’ve listened before.

like realizing how much you’ve missed violin. how very, very much. and how fantastic it feels to practice again. and how damn awesome it is to play baroque music.

like waking up and loving your job. mostly because you make stuff like this:

like sitting down at the end of the day and feeling accomplished.

like listening to nick drake’s pink moon and realizing that summer is at long last rearing its elusive head around the corner.

i’ll take those small things. i’ll take them over big things in life any day.
