challenge #5: write a love letter to yourself

Oh muh goodness. We made it to week 5 of self-love month. I wish I could become a wizard magically and hug every single one of you that commented this month and contributed to this month of self-love goodness. You are all gems.

For the very last challenge of the month, I wanted to do something simple but something incredibly meaningful. It's something I did for myself last year and never forgot it:

Don't even laugh! I promise you it will be awesome.

Here's what you do:

1. Go to futureme.org

2. Write yourself a love letter:

  • Tell yourself how awesome you are
  • What you've accomplished today, this week, this month, this year
  • What you're good at
  • What you love about yourself
  • Write words of encouragement for hard things you have to do this year
  • Write whatever you want. Just make it completely uplifting and make it ooze with self-love.

    3. Schedule a date in the future when you want to receive that letter. It can be tomorrow, next week, or on a day when you know you'll need a little boost of self-love.

That's it! You should most definitely take the time this second to write that letter to yourself.

The reason why I'm giving you this challenge is that last month, I received a letter from myself that I had COMPLETELY forgotten about. I told myself that I was beautiful, that I was smart and strong, and that I could do hard things. I talked about what I was passionate about at the time and encouraged myself to continue with those passions.

Lastly, I told myself to never fall into an eating disorder ever again. I told myself how happy I was at the time and how far I'd come in my recovery.

That last paragraph came at a time when I needed it so, so badly. It came on a day when I was least expecting it, and it meant the world to me. It was a pleasant surprise on a day when I needed a boost.

So, do it for yourself today! Write yourself a love letter and experience the awesomeness that is self-love.

What will you put in your self-love letter?

This post is part of the self-love revolution going on all month long here on A is for Ampersand. Be sure to sign the declaration of self-hate independence and join in on the revolution!

I would just like to say this is the best I've heard in a long time. I know the next few months are going to be hard and this future letter will remind myself how awesome I am.

Thank you so much for sharing this idea! You're awesome!

i did this when i was in the 8th grade? maybe a little older. it was actually something a youth pastor had us do. i received it when i was about 21-22 as he mailed it back to me. i read two sentences and threw it away and thought "seriously? 16 year old me was dumb"

i think for me trying to keep track of my days and fun activities through photos, posts, and other things works a lot better because i can look back on them and remember "oh this happened and i felt this way." then again, maybe that whole like 6 year period between those letters made it a bit crazy for me. it's a good idea, but also scary because it was crazy to think what 16 year old me thought 22 year old me would be like.

this is a really good idea. im having a pretty awesome day- just the kind of day where the feeling needs to be bottled. i should really write down my feelings in a love letter to myself, to be opened when things arent as shiny.

Ahhh that is such a great idea, I love this! I think I sent one of these to myself a few years ago, but I don't really remember. Who knows, maybe I'll get a cool letter from myself in a couple of years!

I did this a few months ago!! And already forgot about it :) I don't even remember when I had it to be delivered. Maybe my 30th birthday? In any case, I love that the website exists.
