To prep for my big trip to Harry Potter World last week, I reread all of the Harry Potter books over the summer. (What if I told you that made for 4 read throughs for all of them over my lifetime? Obsessed much?) Anyway, after reading them all again and being mystified by HPW, I knew I wanted to be Hermione for Halloween. I know--not new, not original, but I never did it, and I just felt like it.
To create my outfit, I just headed to the thrift store because thrift stores are best for most Halloween costumes. Am I right or am I right?

Here's how it turned out:
Sweater vest (thrifted): $2
Wool skirt (thrifted): $4
Gryffindor Tie (thrifted): $2
Graduation gown: free from high school. I knew it would come in handy someday!
Knee highs: We Love Colors $3.50
Shoes: Target from forever ago
Gryffindor Patch: Harry Potter World $7 (HPW stuff was pricey. LAME)
So it wasn't all thrifted, but the meat of it was. The thrifted portions came to a total of $8. Not bad, right?! Not under $5, but hey--it's a special Halloween Thrifty Thursday, so we'll take it.
My cute nephew was Harry Potter at grandma's Halloween party, and I was so excited to have matching costumes with him. (Photo via my sista.)
Elsewhere on the thrifting block, Kate from Beautifully Pure found this incredible chair.
She says, "I loved the quirky style of it and when I found out it was just $4 with %50 off, I just had to get it! Then my cousin did some research on the manufacturer name on the bottom, and found out that the company was sold in '57. Which means this chair is at least 54 years old! Score!"
Did you find something awesome out and about on your thrifting excursions this week? Was it $5 or under and you’re dying to shout it from a mountain top? Send it over to amymorby(at)gmail(dot)com, and I’ll feature you here on another edition of $5 Thrifty Thursday!

I love it!!! Brilliant thrifting scores!!
You look great!
Awesome costume! I bet you didn't want to take it off. I know what you mean about Harry Potter. I like to re-read them every year. The whole time I'm reading them, and then for a few weeks after I'm just in a better mood and in a constant 'Harry Potter daze". I love it.

i wanna see it...i adore vintage furniture!!
You look adorable as Hermione! I love her! She's awesome.
And don't worry, you're not too obsessed. I've read them 7 times (5 times in Bulgarian and 2 times in English). I will be a dark fairy for Halloween but I need to get myself a dress.
