So I went to the mates of state show on mondee night.
I have to admit I wasn't initially that excited. As one of my used-to-be favorite bands, mates of state had recently begun to fall by the wayside of my musical palate. Basically, once you get into animal collective, there's no turning back.
After the show last night, though, I was completely proven wrong. I danced my heart out. Quite literally. They played all my favs and reminded me why I once loved them so much. There's a charm to twee music, and I don't care what anyone says--mates will always be a fav. plus, they put on a damn fine show. damn fine.
we waited a long time. see our tired feet?
she is beautiful.
they are even more beautiful together. (they're married, ps. in case you weren't aware.)
but he is the most beautiful.
besides me after this show. mostly because i was sweating my fanny to bits. dude. so much dancing. SO much dancing.
here are a couple of vids in case you're interested. and you're probably not, but humor me. i was testing out the new iPhone 4 hd vids.
here they are playing an old fav, "whiner's bio."

and this last song of the encore was quite possibly the shining moment of the night. they busted out an oldie--"goods." it was everything i dreamed and more--especially when the opening band, Free Energy, came out and joined in the joie de vivre. seriously one of the best mates songs ever. and the best music video, too.
